IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR WE ALL GO INTO SHEER PANIC.
CHRISTMAS PRESENT PANIC TO BE PRECISE, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE A CHILD WITH AUTISM.
Christmas is always different in our home. I have two children, my eldest Maisy who is Neurotypical and my youngest Chester who has Autism. I have experienced two very different types christmases over the years.
Pre Chester and autism days Christmas was your stereotypical festivities. When Chester was diagnosed at 18 months Christmas traditions for us soon changed. Change can be scary, the unknown but change isn’t a negative.
We soon found what worked for us and especially Chester.
Buying presents for Chester has been hit and miss in the past. I feel that we are now in a place where we know what he likes. On that note let’s take a look at presents that we have tried, tested and recommend or the ones are on Chesters Christmas list this year.
I came across the wooden magic face blocks game whilst browsing amazon. Facial expressions can be confusing for people with autism. This game can be played alone or up to four people. it’s a interactive game by putting together the correct face pattern to match the face on the chosen card.
FIDGET TOY BOX
I love these fidget boxes. They are a great sensory box that help help reduced anxiety and a great distraction.I buy these all year round as they really do bring a lot of joy to Chester and sensory feedback.
We have been such fans of Kinetic Sand for years. There is so many types of boxes you can buy, a favourite of mine is the ice cream set. This year I’ve bought this carry box, perfect to keep together safely. Be warned even though this is pretty much mess free I still recommend sitting on a picnic blanket whilst this is being played with.
FOAM POGO JUMPER
We bought a foam pogo stick for Chester a few years back and it was a real hit. If you don’t have an indoor mini trampoline in the Winter months then this will give your child sensory feedback that jumping normally gives them.
GLOW MAGNETIC RINGS
I was introduced to these by an instagram follower. They a similar to the popular fidget spinner that everyone went crazy for a few years ago. I know the Magnetic Ring Spinz will be a perfect stocking filler for Chester this year.
Thank you so much for taking thew time to read this blogpost. If you have any recommendations I would love to hear them…. pop me a comment.
